First phase of road works starts

Work has commenced on the Teo-Bhuin Sipotavai feeder road in the Taonita/Tinputz Constituency, AROB following its groundbreaking ceremony on November 13, 2024.

Raibro Construction Limited are on the ground and started road maintenance work on the 09th of December 2024.

The maintenance and upgrade of the road is a relief to the people along the Teo-Buin Sipotavai Road who have struggle in getting their cash crops to the markets and receiving other services.

The feeder road is the first for the PNG Commercialization and Diversification (PACD) project in Bougainville and it is anticipated to be completed within a duration of 10 months.

The groundbreaking was officiated by a delegation from the World Bank and the National Government on the 13th of December 2024.

The delegation was in Papua New Guinea for a two-weeks Implementation Support Mission (ISM) to evaluate the progress of the PNG Agriculture Commercialization and Diversification (PACD) Project running from November 10 -25, 2024.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony Allan Oliver Balbal, Senior Agriculture Specialist and PACD team leader thanked PMU for the processing of the documents to finally getting this road into reality and congratulate Raibro construction for securing the contract, praising the company’s track record of delivering quality work across AROB.

Mr Balbal said this road development will benefit people in Tinputz area including students, teachers, cocoa farmers, mothers and the public at large. The local’s express appreciation of seeing a development that will have an impact on their lives.

Representing the ABG community department Blaise Vosivai thanked the World Bank, the National Government and PACD PMU in seeing the biggest need of the people come to a reality.

“This is not just constructing a road this is market access we will construct this road so that people can bring vegetable and cocoa to the market,” said Mr Vosivai.
