PACD Cocoa PMU Outreach at Warwagira show
12 Jul 2025
The vibrant coastal breeze of Kokopo carried the rhythmic pulse of the kundu drum as the 28th National Mask and Warwagira Festival came alive at the George Brown School grounds in Gazelle District.
This year’s celebration of Papua New Guinea’s rich cultural heritage was not just about spectacular headdresses and ancestral dance—it was also about showcasing the nation’s future in agriculture.
The Project Management Unit (PMU) of the PNG Agriculture Commercialization and Diversification (PACD) Project proudly joined the festivities, setting up an engaging information booth among the colorful stalls. With the theme “Empowering Farmers, Diversifying Futures”, the booth became a hub for curious visitors, farmers, students, and even tourists eager to learn how agriculture is being transformed across the country.
PACD PMU staff warmly welcomed attendees, sharing how the project works to strengthen value chains, improve market access, and encourage the diversification of agricultural products beyond traditional cash crops. From cocoa to spices, from fresh produce to niche exports, the team explained how the project connects farmers to opportunities that can boost incomes and support sustainable rural livelihoods.
To bring the message to life, the booth displayed posters, brochures, and samples of agricultural produce from participating provinces. Demonstrations of value-added products—such as dried spices, artisanal coffee, and processed cocoa—sparked lively discussions. Farmers from East New Britain and beyond exchanged ideas with project officers, while young students left inspired about agriculture as a modern and rewarding career path.
For the PMU, the festival was more than a public outreach—it was a chance to celebrate culture and community while reinforcing the role agriculture plays in sustaining Papua New Guinea’s traditions and economy.
PMU also sends invitation to the partnerships in East New Britain to be part of the team. Thank you for the Kairak partnership and the University of Natural Resources and Environment for joining the team with selling of processed chickens that was supported by the project. Also, the Frangipani Foods Limited a joint partner to 2 partnership in East New Britain were also present to show case their products and what they do. The show started on the 09th of July to the 12th of July 2025.
